Depending on the size and complexity of the roof, a roof restoration can cost as little as $2,000 (excluding GST).
This is a worthwhile investment if you wish to improve the look and functionality of your roof.
Metal roofs can last up to 40 to 70 years. They are an extremely durable roofing material, except if they start to show signs of surface rust or deterioration.
As soon as you identify rust in your metal roof, you should take action to remove it as soon as possible. If you don’t, the rust will spread further and may cause a larger point of entry for water to enter your home. If the rust has caused corrosion, remove it by lightly sanding it.
Once the rust is removed, apply metal primer, and two coats of paint. If your roof is more than 30 years old, it might be time for a roof restoration or roof replacement.
If you are struggling to decide whether to restore or replace you roof, we recommend considering the following:
• Full roof replacement is expensive and often, it is not required to ensure your house is water proof.
• Once any holes or water leaks are repaired, a roof restoration may be all you need to extend the life of your roof. The process provides a protective layer to your roof to prevent damage caused by rust and weathering.
• Opting for a roof restoration is a vastly more affordable solution than a full roof replacement.
• A roof restoration can dramatically enhance the street appeal of your home or building.
The best coating for a metal roof is one that prevents rust corrosion and reflects light.
Colorbond and Zincalume are tried and tested products that come with a built-in protective layer. Galvanizing is another method of rust prevention for roofs. The roof material is coated in a thin layer of zinc. This stops oxygen and water reaching the metal underneath but the zinc also acts as a sacrificial metal, sustaining any damage before the layer underneath does.
