What is Metal Roof Restoration?

We commence the restoration process by repairing or replacing damaged roof sheets and replacing old lead nails or rusty screws and blades where required. We apply a penetrol oxide inhibitor to the entire oxidized surface, then one coat of metal primer, and two layers of roof membrane coating.

How often do metal roofs need to be restored?
Metal roofs can last up to 40 to 70 years. They are an extremely durable roofing material, except if they start to show signs of surface rust or deterioration.
As soon as you identify rust in your metal roof, you should take action to remove it as soon as possible. If you don’t, the rust will spread further and may cause a larger point of entry for water to enter your home. If the rust has caused corrosion, remove it by lightly sanding it.
Once the rust is removed, apply metal primer, and two coats of paint. If your roof is more than 30 years old, it might be time for a roof restoration or roof replacement.

The roof material is coated in a thin layer of zinc. This stops oxygen and water reaching the metal underneath but the zinc also acts as a sacrificial metal, sustaining any damage before the layer underneath does.
